Here is a compilation of the three very short stories I wrote out today as a test for Twitter. I’m not completely sure I’m doing them right, but I tried to have it be as closed a story as possible between each thing. (Beginning, middle, and end)
Dreams-
My mentor told me to never stop dreaming. She said it was imperative. I dreamt until those dreams were crushed. I never would have imagined that my lack of dreams would awaken the nightmares.
The Book-
Tam watched as the crust of the earth broke and the foliage in the glade withered all around. The ancient book fell to the cracked earth, landing open at the final page. The thud that echoed out sounded like the snap of a great oak. He had begun the end.
Soft smiles and heart beats-
The pitter-patter on the tin roof kept her awake, though she knew she couldn’t have slept anyways. Tomorrow would be the day everything changed, the day this rain would finally alleviate. She opened her eyes in spite of the darkness and seconds later lightning painted the shack. Old photos hung on the ramshackle walls, and water leaked in from several spots, but her trunk was safe. Thunder echoed from outside; that and the ever pittering rain masked the thumping from the trunk. She smiled and closed her eyes once more.
Brake-
Kyle drove down the dark road. The pavement was wet with the first morning’s showers but he still floored it around the bend by old Jacob’s farm. Like usual his wheels came from under his rear end, but this time he would regret not using the brake.
All of those ^^^ were based on Twitter, so to give those of you who saw it here on the blog a special treat I will do one more flash fiction.
The Fae Dog-
Ree moved nimbly through the underbrush, avoiding roots and thorns as he scurted under the defensive wall of the Gladehaven border. Everything in Gladhaven became still as he charged in, his low body avoiding the natural canopy that would encumber most other intruders from the outside world.
Music echoed from inside the nearest flower, its tune as sickly sweet and sticky on the ears as the nectar from within. He looked around, his eyes catching on a flitting ball of light. He charged ahead and stopped an inch from the light; his large eyes piercing through the small ambient glow.
“Ah. You’ve returned Sergeant Ree. What tidings do you bring-” The small being recoiled as Ree drenched the being in saliva from his long tongue, as sticky but certainly not as sweet as the nectar.
Ree stared and let the peaceful music echo throughout the small glade. “War. War is upon us.”
Okay wrote that out very late and fairly(pun intended) tired but I hope you could enjoy it.
